Time Out Melbourne

It's a public holiday but your caffeine receptors don't know that so we rounded up a few places where you can get your morning fix, and linger over brekky if the mood takes you

This stalwart of low-key good times will sort you out with tapas, veggie burgers, Kooinda beers and easy listening tunes in the courtyard on your Monday off work. Fitzroy.

Open: 8.30am-4pm

De Clieu

Mark Dundon and Bridget Amor love, love, love coffee; so much so that they are opening up on a public holiday to ensure you needn't go without on this national day of rest and recuperation. Fitzroy.

Open: 7am-5pm

Dr Jekyll

If you are in need of hangover-curing sustenance in St Kilda set your rudder for the sunny courtyard of this little café that has its evil side in permanent lockdown. St Kilda.

Open: 8am-4pm

Duchess of Spotswood

Shine those shoes and brush up on your curtsey because this is one royally good café. Small Batch coffee is in your cup, mod-English cuisine is on your plate and owners you want to talk to are in the house. Spotswood.

Open: 8am-3pm

Friends of Mine

Friends of Mine is like a big hug from your best mate when you've had a crappy day - everything is warm and familiar and the food hugs your insides too. Richmond.

Open: 7.30am-4pm

Hobba Coffee and Kitchen

Open to the street and with a tree thrown in the middle of the ex-tyre fitting garage, it almost feels like you’re eating al fresco - but without the dangers of sunburn or hangovers even sunglasses cannot help dull. Prahran.

Open: 7am-5pm

Le Chien

While there are several cafes around Seddon's main street, Le Chien is a firm favourite. The coffee is consistently good and the all-day breakfast is a lifesaver. Seddon.

Open: 8am-1pm

Manchester Press

Named for the printing press that was once here, Manchester Press has morphed into a hip cafe where the cool kids hang out. Be sure to check out the bagels if you're a fan. Melbourne.

Open: 9am-5pm

Slowpoke Espresso

The menu is simple, but sound. They’ve embraced the highly underrated soft boiled egg, most dishes are under $12, and the raw produce is local, organic and bio dynamic wherever possible. Fitzroy.

Open: 8am-4pm

Snow Pony

Snow Pony is brought to you by the same good people of Porgie & Mr Jones in Hawthorn and, along with similar menus, the venues share the same good service and tasteful decor DNA. Balwyn.

Open: 8.30am-4pm

St Ali

Whether you are recovering or ready and raring to get some life admin accomplished on a work-free weekday, you're going to need good coffee and snacks to get through it and St Ali has your back. South Melbourne.

Open: 7am-6pm

Three Bags Full

Located just off of pho-tastic Victoria St, the Three Bags Full philosophy is simple: your food should be as good as your coffee, and your coffee should make tea feel embarrassed for existing. Abbotsford.

Open: 8am-4pm
