Five to Try - Best Burgers

Bun, beef, cheese, sauce...? Here are five joints that make a rave-worthy burger

However you like your burgers, from clean and easy to big and greasy, these five joints do the classic meat sandwich every which way you can think of.

Beatbox Kitchen

Food van man Raph Rashid drives his tape deck-decorated burgermobile around the streets and to festivals, pumping out simple grilled beef or field mushroom burgers with aioli, cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. Legend has it, these burgers have saved lives. (03 9023 0888 Follow @beatboxkitchen). $11.

Rockpool Bar and Grill

Neil Perry may be one of Australia’s preeminent chefs, but damn does that man love a burger. The rare wagyu-filled beast at Rockpool comes with housemade zuni pickles and smoky bacon in a slightly sweet brioche bun. It’s opposed to salad, heavy on condiments, and awesome. Crown Casino, 8 Whiteman St, Southbank. $24.

The Burger Lounge

This Eltham purveyor of king-size, pristine-produce packed, hand-cut-chip-accompanied feasts is for those who see burger eating as a challenge to get as many things in a bun as possible. Try their Havarti-stuffed and balsamic-glazed beef signature burger. 902 Main Rd, Eltham. $13.

The Millswyn

For those who like their burger to be all burger, the Millswyn offers up a patty as thick as your fist, served minimally in naught but a toasted sesame bun with the makings of a BLAT, and a jar of relish on the side for DIY burger building. 131–133 Domain Rd, South Yarra. $23.

The Local Taphouse

Sitting inside a flour-dusted bun is beef marinated in smoky beer, onion rings that have been beer battered and aioli that is ale based. The Local dudes deeply love their brews, and we in turn love their beer burger – especially with a tall, refreshing beer. 184 Carlisle St, St Kilda East. $19.

Trunk? Ludlow? Heck, even Danny's? Tons of good burgers northside.
