Time Out Melbourne

Three months ago, some oil-impregnated towels caught on fire in the dryer of a Hardware Street massage parlour. The resulting blaze not only took out the shop, it ran right through to one of the city's favourite cafés. It was a sad day for one and all, but rejoice, Melbourne, for today the Hardware Societe returns to normal operation.

For all those who know and love the café for its gigantic pan-European breakfasts and tapas dishes, fear not, – they've simply taken the chance to freshen up the room, rather than do-over the menu. "The recipes are tried and tested, so we don't need to change them," owner Di Kesser tell us.

Anyone in the food world knows it's no small thing for a joint to be knocked out for a few months, so head down and lend your fork in support.
