The bold red interior matches the intensity of flavours from this modern Italian restaurant
Dangerously close to what once was the dodgy end of Johnston Street (or the fun end, depending on your persuasion) is the the Hat-holding Fitzroy gastro-pub. Settle in for a session in the front bar or kick back at a table in the formal dining room out back. Polished floorboards, a sleek new paint job and table service in all areas sweetens the deal. You’ll find craft brews sidling up to cocktails and local and imported wines that match well to the Italian bistro leaning menu of small, medium and large plates (perhaps an excellent vitello tonnato or a crayfish agnolotti with anchovy crumbs). There’s still a bit of pub in the old girl though – you’ll find a decent range of steaks but thankfully, no plastic pint glasses.
