The little words exchanged between friends, family and lovers – ‘sorry’, ‘thanks’ and ‘I love you’ – are what inspired three pals to create a new online store making shopping for loved ones as pleasurable as gift-giving ought to be.
Caroline Ball, Matt Gurry and Ant White have lived and worked together in Paris, New York, Melbourne and Sydney – and their website is a reflection of their combined discerning tastes in luxury gifts, sourced from across the globe. Half of the items stocked are handmade, from silk Kashmiri scarves to Scandinavian knives, complete with reindeer antler handles, and they have connections with boutique florists in every capital city, so that you can send flowers across Australia.
What’s charming about the site is its custom tailoring system: it asks questions about the person you’re buying for to help select a range of products suitable for your beau, bestie or business buddy. For example, as a kid, "Did they have an imaginary friend?" or "Did they build the best tree houses?"
And they have a liquor licence, so you can send a bottle of single malt whisky or bottle of Champagne. Or a slab of Bruny Island cheese, or waxed shoelaces from dapper US store Hook and Albert. Perhaps market-fresh pineapple lilies might say "thanks"; a wishbone bangle from Dinosaur Designs might say "I love you."
Let’s just say, it’s won us over. In fact, we’re bookmarking the web address.
