What to do with the littlies when you want to crash the races? Victorian Racing Club answers that age-old question by making the young ones a part of the experience on Emirates Stakes Day.
There’s no need for a babysitter at the race meeting known as ‘family day’, with a children’s precinct to keep children entertained. ‘The Zone’ is free for kids, and will feature jumping castles, face painting, mini golf, an animal farm and an area for teenagers. Even Spring Racing fashion takes on a youthful flavour, with junior categories.
That’s not to say the racing isn’t of the highest calibre. The Emirates Stakes is Victoria’s No.1 contest over 1,600m and while nominations for entries are yet to be announced, here’s a tip: avoid the favourites. In the past decade, just two of 10 Stakes top picks have won, while almost half have failed to fi nish in the top three.
Earlier in the day is the weight-for-age Patinack Farm Classic, a 1,200m dash won last year by a little mare known as Black Caviar.
