Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

"Ugly Mugs" is a rough-made rogues gallery of bad clients published and distributed by working prostitutes around St Kilda, a bulletin containing warnings about everyone from the time wasters to the rapists, describing what they look like and what they've done.

Taking its name from this DIY publication is a new play by Peta Brady, whose last work, Strands, was nominated by Time Out as one of the standout production of 2011. Commissioned by Malthouse Theatre and directed by artistic director Marion Potts, Ugly Mugs reflects on current anxieties about violence against women.

Brady is best known for her television roles, on Neighbours, The Slap and Kath and Kim, but she also works part-time as a drug and alcohol safety outreach worker. She has spent much time among Melbourne's sex workers and has seen first hand the aftermath of the violence which is all too common in that community.

Brady will also be starring in the show, which is a Malthouse Theatre commission.
