The same-sex marriage debate goes to the theatre

First published on . Updated on .

This event has finished

As the same-sex marriage debate raged in the US, Hollywood heavyweights Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Martin Sheen joined the fray with public readings of the play 8 by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk and J. Edgar).

Centring around the US Federal Court trial that blocked the rights of gay and lesbian couples to marry in the US, the play will now be brought to life in Australia with readings by Australia's own theatre and television royalty Shane Jacobson, Lisa McCune, Daniel MacPherson and Spencer McLaren.

The readings will take place for one night only in Melbourne and Sydney and will coincide with the announcement of the Senate's findings on a current inquiry into same sex marriage in Australia.

All profits from the reading will go towards Australian Marriage Equality and their fight to end marriage discrimination in Australia.
