This month sees the release of a fat ol’ picture book called Abbey Road: The Best Studio in the World. And if you think it’s another hagiography of the Beatles, you’d be missing the mark by a lot – and then some.
Instead, music journalist Alistair Lawrence’s book examines the studio’s entire eight-decade history, focusing on the stars who sang there – from Shirley Bassey to Brian Wilson – and the technological innovations made within its walls. Particularly interesting for those not in the know on the studio’s history, it has been home to a number of film score recordings, including for The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
But the most striking things in Lawrence’s book – which features a foreward by producer George Martin – are the images of stars inside the studio. We scraped a few together for a preview in the slideshow above.
Abbey Road: The Best Studio in the World is available now through Bloomsbury, RRP$79.99.
