As part of its long-anticipated reopening season, the new Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is looking forward and looking back. Volume One: MCA Collection features works by more than 150 Australian artists acquired since the Museum was founded in May 1989, reflecting the diversity of Australian contemporary art in the last 20 years.
Expect to see work from the likes of artists Tracey Moffatt, Mike Parr, Brown Council, William Yang, Judith Wright, Julie Rrap, Chips Mackinolty, Rosemary Laing, Rosalie Gascoigne and Fiona Hall - all in MCA's stunning new gallery formations.
“It’s work that we’ve bought since 1989 when the Museum was established,” says director Elizabeth Ann Macgregor. “It’s important that we look right back and bring out works that we haven’t shown for a long time. There are going to be some surprises, some notable exceptions and some others who are getting a look-in for maybe the first time.”
There will also be a number of talks on the exhibition throughout the season. Check the brand spanking new MCA website for more.
