Nordic Light Hotel
The Nordic Light is stylish in a very Scandinavian way: white walls, wooden floors, absurdly comfortable beds, hearty breakfasts and, the icing on the cake, a ‘Light Manager’ to oversee the hotel illumination. Lighting effects are employed throughout the hotel, with pretty patterns projected on to the walls of the 175 bedrooms and a chandelier that slowly changes colour in the airy bar-restaurant. The hotel’s location near the Arlanda Express means it’s only 20 minutes from hotel check-out to airport check-in. Vasaplan, PO Box 884, Stockholm. +46 50 56 34 20.
A 20-minute bus, boat or taxi ride from the city, this hotel is beautifully situated on the coast. A 1912 summer house and two modern extensions house 44 rooms. Rooms in the old building are smaller and without balconies. You can rent mini-catamarans and the hotel has its own motorboat. Restaurant J on the quayside has a reputation for indifferent service but the views ensure that it stays busy. Ellensviksvägen 1, Nacka Strand, Stockholm. +46 601 30 00.
Set in a 1690s building on a peaceful city island, this designer hotel is 300 metres from the Moderna Museum. All rooms offer flat-screen TVs, DVD players and park or sea views.
