Eat and drink

Perth is far from the sleepy nightlife town it once was and a real highlight in this city is what you’ll find in the expansive Print Hall. Head to the roof for cocktails at Bob’s Bar and score a table at the main dining room downstairs. From chef Shane Watson’s Western Australian menu is a standout while the 20,000-bottle strong cellar is highly awarded. Lalla Rookh Bar and Eating House has West Australian-influenced Italian cuisine from chef Joel Valvasori-Pereza and a star-studded wine list from gun sommelier Jeremy Prus. Score a corner table and order the spinach and ricotta ravioli. 77 St Georges Tce, Perth 6000. 08 9325 7077.

Ribs, rumps, hot wings, doughnuts, bloody caesars and lots of whiskey. Bring on the Americana – that’s what Miss Kitty’s Saloon is all about, right down to an iced tea. 882 Beaufort St, Inglewood 6052. 08 9272 6669.

Swing into Mechanics Institute Bar for a round of New York Sours crafted by a team of whiskey-loving bartenders, and a burger. 222 William St, Northbridge 6000. 08 9228 4189.

The city’s newest hotel, Fraser Suites Perth, offers the modern comforts of a hotel (room service, a bar, restaurant and fitness facilities) with apartment-style rooms that are spacious and stylish. The edge-of-the-CBD location is also tops. 10 Adelaide Tce, East Perth 6004. 08 9261 0000.
