Litoral (Macanese)

Escada (Macanese)
Portuguese food lovers will enjoy what’s on offer at Escada (so called because of a nearby famous staircase), particularly the sausage, seafood crab rice and cod fish. Platao (Macanese)
On the Macau Peninsula, Platao is known for its baked stuffed eggplant, ox tongue and spicy clams, best had with the restaurant’s homemade bread. The beef tenderloin in a goose liver sauce is also a delight.

O’Manuel (Portuguese)
Got a hankering for bacalhau or a nice roasted suckling pig? Head to this no-frills eatery where owner-chef Manuel dishes up authentic Portuguese food – get there early to avoid missing out on the arroz de lapas (abalone rice). 90 Rua Fernao Mendes Pinto, Taipa, Macau. +853 2882 5811.

A Lorcha (Portuguese)
Seafood and meat, Portuguese-style, are what you get at A Lorcha in Old Macau. Order up the homemade bread, octopus salad, king prawns, cod fish in cream sauce or try their go at a Shepherd’s pie. The venue is named after a kind of boat. 89 Rua do Almirante Sergio, Macau. +853 2831 3195.

The Eight (Chinese)
A Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant, the Eight serves Cantonese and Huaiyang cuisine and lunch is the time to stop by, with 50 kinds of dim sum on the menu. The set menu is paired with wines from France and Germany. Grand Lisboa, Avenida de Lisboa, Macau. +853 8803 7788.

Sky 21 (Pan-Asian)
Hit the outside deck and take in the views of Macau with a Mojito in hand, or sit down at the restaurant inside one level down and tuck in to Pan-Asian cuisine. The best value drinks are wines by the bottle.

Robuchon au Dome (French-Asian)
Famed restaurateur Joel Robuchon’s place high atop the Grand Lisboa, Macau’s tulip-shaped skyscraper, is a three-Michelin starred eatery. Sea urchin, scampi ravioli and veal chops highlight a world-class set menu. Grand Lisboa, Avenida de Lisboa, Macau. +853 8803 7878.

Golden Flower (Chinese)
It’s all about the flavours of China’s Shandong and Sichuan provinces at this two-Michelin star Chinese restaurant. Master Liu Guo Zhu presents a six- or eight-course menu of Tan cuisine, a culinary tradition from the Qing Dynasty. Wynn Macau, Rua Cidade de Sintra, Macau. +853 2888 9966.
