Time Out Melbourne

The best ‘Pau Hana’ on and off the beach in Waikiki offers value for your US dollar

Shore Bird

The best happy hour in Waikiki by a beach mile offers US$3.50 Mai Tais and Coors Light beers noon-5pm smack bang on the beach at the Outrigger Reef, an ideal spot to catch the sun setting into the Pacific Ocean. Hungry? Order the ‘Kalua’ pulled pork sandwich. 2169 Kalia Rd, Honolulu, USA. +1 808 922 2887.

A large range of drinks is on the happy hour menu at Tiki’s daily 2-5pm, including $5 Mai Tais, Margaritas and Blue Hawaiis, and $2.50 draft beers. Don’t skip $2 Taco Tuesdays (5-9pm) and also expect daily drink specials from 6pm. 2570 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, USA. +1 808 923 8454.

Rum Fire

Expect two happy hours at Rum Fire in ideal times – 3-5pm and 9.30-11.15pm daily, except public holidays – with a menu that’s jammed with nibbles (order the pulled short rib sliders and ‘loaded’ Maui kettle chips), $7 cocktail specials, draft beers and night caps. 2255 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, USA. +1 808 922 4422.

Yard House

It might not be on the beach and has a heap of TVs playing sport, but there is a serious happy hour here (Mon-Fri 2-5.30pm; Sun-Wed 10.30pm-close). Almost everything is on special, from around 100 craft beers (from $2.25) through to martinis ($6.75) and treats including Buffalo wings and blue crab cakes. 226 Lewers St, Honolulu, USA. +1 808 923 9273.

Tropics Bar

From 3-5pm daily, find a selection of premium cocktails, including the 1944 Trader Vic’s Mai Tai, for $9. All draft beer is $6 and on the food side, there are $7 wings and $8 nachos alongside a huge onion-ring tower for $6. 2005 Kalia Rd, Honolulu, USA. +1 808 949 4321.
