An enfant terrible of Australian art inspires a masterful hotel experience

Featuring 450 pieces of the late artist Adam Cullen’s work, you could be mistaken for thinking The Cullen is a full-blown gallery and not just a stunning new boutique hotel.

Part of the city’s Art Series Hotel Group (which also features The Olsen in South Yarra and The Blackman on St Kilda Road – tribute hotels to artists John Olsen and Charles Blackman), The Cullen has an enviable location on Commercial Road in Prahran, just across from the suburb’s markets and surrounded by shops, bars, restaurants and cafés.

The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, while the rooftop suites have the hippest views in the city – a Manhattan feeling without the high-rises.

Downstairs, the dumplings at Hutong are among the city's best and a great idea is to order some takeaway and tuck into them upstairs in the comfort of your room with a view (make sure you request one of the few with a balcony too).
