Eat, drink, shop and be merry at this South Yarra palace
It was the place to stay 22 years ago and to this day, The Como remains one of Melbourne’s favourite hotels.
While it’s a mecca for celebs (thanks to its location next to Channel Ten), here at Time Out we love The Como because of its eating-drinking-shopping location on Chapel Street. Sometimes there's nothing better than a short stroll home after that last Martini and crashing out on a plush bed, complete with a range of pillows on demand.
While The Como is certainly ready for a refurbishment (and Time Out hears plans are in the works), the rooms are still well presented and if they're not booked, the ones to go for are the studio suites complete with Japanese gardens.
If you really want to splurge, book the Como Suite, a split-room penthouse that features a baby grand piano, wet bar, private terrace, huge in-bathroom jacuzzi and three plasma TVs. It'll cost you a bit more than a grand, but it's worth it.
