World Class Cocktails: My Pretty Summer Lady

"Growing up in Rome, summer for me is all about beautiful tanned ladies in colourful pretty dresses, escaping to the beach and the refreshment of a "gelato con panna" - an ice cream cone with whipped cream! In this twist of the great classic "White Lady", I tried to bring all those elements to the plate. Tanqueray 10 is combined with fresh lemon juice and sugar, while refreshing depths of flavour are introduced substituting the Cointreau of the original recipe with Amaro Nonino. This is a grape spirit-based Italian liqueur, produced in Udine by the Nonino family: a base of artisanal grappa is blended with UE (Nonino's patented grape spirit, obtained by the distillation of whole grapes) and infused with Alpine herbs and spices and aged in Limousine oak barrel for at least 5 years. On top of flavour profiles, the Amaro gives the drink a beautiful golden bright tan-like vibrancy. On the side, our "gelato con panna" is a bit of a twist too: pink grapefruit iced sand (granita) is topped with tanned chamomile italian meringue. Summer field dust and summer sherbet (lime and mint) are then sprinkled on top."

Recipe:
40ml Tanqueray 10
20ml Amaro Nonino
30ml Lemon Juice
20ml Simple syrup

Method:
Shake hard and fine strain in a cold cocktail glass. Garnish with an elegant grapefruit twist and serve with side of twisted "gelato con panna".
