This event has finished

One of Sydney's best-loved street events, Primo Italiano is back this May. And – like the Italian culture it celebrates – the 2010 Festival is colourful, delicious and full of fun.

Once more, our own little pocket of Italia – Stanley, Yurong, Crown and Riley Streets in East Sydney – will host the authentic tastes, sounds, smells and stories of Old Italy.

Primo Italiano promises a stunning smorgasbord of delicious food from the surrounding restaurants (Bill & Toni’s, Beppi’s, The Arch, Time to Vino) and hand-picked Italian specialty stalls thrown into the bargain. Don’t miss the pizza-making either!

The entertainment on offer is diverse. Musically, there’s divas and DJs and, of course, street busking and dancing. Movie-lovers will delight in the outdoor cinema while kids will love getting hands-on with a variety of activities catering to all ages.

Behind the spectacle are the stories, and guided walking tours will run all day to paint a more vivid picture of the past, present and future of East Sydney’s Little Italy, reminding us of the depth and diversity of this most unique of Sydney’s city villages.

Of course, it will be equally illuminating to sit and watch the world go by while ruminating over a gorgeous hot coffee or steaming plate of pasta.

Eat, drink and be bellissimo – that’s Primo Italiano 2010!

Italian-theme cycling centre

To really get into the Italian theme, the City of Sydney is hosting a special Italian-themed cycle centre at the MTV gallery space on Yurong Street open 11am-4pm.

The cycling centre will feature a display of flash Italian bicycles ranging from the beautiful '50s inspired Abici bicycles to the cutting edge designs of Pinarello road bikes.

To further promote bike riding, the City's cycling ambassadors - former Rabbitohs great Ian Roberts and Culture Minx Nell Schofield will be hosting some informative “bike chats” with bike expert Joanne Jones, Director of Get BikeWise and host of the 2SER bike show “Bike Love”.

These 15 minute “chats” run every half hour, starting at 11.45am until 3.30pm and the conversations will include a wide array of cycling related topics from choosing the righ bike for you to great rides in and around Sydney.

For more great Cycling tips check out next week's June issue of Time Out and our exclusive feature story 'Sydney Cycling 101'.
