As well as being a hot coffee tip, the annual Aroma Festival is a history lesson of sorts. During the 1800s the Rocks was a key pit stop on the merchant spice road and chocolate, coffee, tea and rare spices all arrived there from the most exotic corners of the globe. The festival draws on this edible history and divides the precinct into four global regions, with more than 100 stalls to check out. Indulge in sweet European treats with a café au lait; explore the mystery of the Middle East and all her bounties (think Turkish coffee and baklava); sample hot Latin coffee and even hotter chillies; and then switch to tea or spicy chai as you wander through a lantern-filled Oriental alley market.
