A car-free Glebe Point Road will host food stalls, live music, kids' activities and plenty of foot traffic
Stretching for almost a kilometre down Glebe Point Road, the Glebe Street Fair is, in both senses, one of Sydney’s longest running annual events. The suburb, well known for its relaxed, bohemian vibe, is the perfect muse for a community celebration of this kind, and all proceeds will be channelled straight back into local creative projects.
This year is officially the year of the beat, so come fair day, expect to find many a roving drummer or energetic drum circle on your travels. They'll get the rhythm going for the fair's impressive live music line-up. Kym Campbell, who’s been likened to a female Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz, will be topping the bill on the main stage. They'll be joined by Nick Rheinberger, magician Zorthan the Great, Pat Capocci, Jonathan Lee Jones, A Cat Named Kesey, Adam Fisher, Ali Carter and the African rhythms of Keyim Ba.
More than 100,000 visitors are expected to make the festive odyssey. Stop off for fairy floss and homemade lemonade, or at the stalls of local artists and designers whowill be selling their wares just in time for the Christmas shopping period. Kids can try their hand at craft and music workshops, have their faces painted, or head straight for Glebe Public School for a little out-of-the-way storytelling.
Get ready to move to the beat, folks. Summer has arrived.
