Time Out Sydney

This event has finished

Get into the swing of summer by enjoying the Sydney Festival's free outdoor concert

In your wildest dreams did you ever think you’d see a ten-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter for free? No? Start dreaming bigger – because Sydney, the "Queen of Funk", Chaka Khan, is performing for us for free at Summer Sounds in The Domain, supported by ANZ and China Southern Airlines. Make a day of it and experience all of the free events Sydney Festival has to offer…

Pre-game Before you get bouncing to the soulful funk of Ms Khan, get bouncing for reals at Sacrilege, Turner-winning artist Jeremy Deller’s inflatable replica of Stonehenge at Festival Village.

Fast Festival Feast The excitement for Chaka Khan making you hungry? Drop into Puntino Trattoria before the show and enjoy a Basilicata summer antipasto to start, followed by a main course selection of either handmade artisan pasta or pizza for $30 per person. You’ll need the carbs to keep up with Chaka Khan...

The main event OK, so Chaka is clearly the big drawcard – throw off that free ANZ blanket for a few minutes and throw your hands up for ‘I’m Every Woman’ – but don’t be late: you won’t want to miss DJ Tom Loud opening the show with travelling party Hot Dub Time Machine. With tickets selling fast for Hot Dub in the Festival Village, it might be your only chance.

And later? Get back to the larger-than-ever Festival Village for a drink and more tunes under the lanterns.
