Camilla SS12/13 MBFWA Show

The celebration of colour and print was an early stand out for MBFWA 2012

It’s been a whirlwind few years for Camilla Franks and with Oprah, Beyonce and Gwen Stefani as fans, it would be easy for her to rest on her laurels. She hasn't. Her SS12/13 collection show today was a triumph sure to push her even higher among the fashion elite. The show saw a 500-strong audience queue for an hour. Patience was low and expectations were high, but they were suitably met – exceeded, in fact.

The Gypset collection is a hyper-colour journey through some of the world's most exotic locations. The offbeat safari of influences spanned Morocco, Africa, Laos, India, Japan and there was even a hint of our very own outback landscape. The prints were original and endless. Oriental florals, fractured geometrics, bold tribals, wild animals and swirling paisley patterns all clashed, complimented and coordinated for a colourful visual feast.

The queen of kaftans didn’t just rely on her signature piece, either. Instead, she translated her luxe resort aesthetic into capes, kaftans, dresses, playsuits, skirts, one pieces, swimsuits and pants. And it wasn’t just about the clothes. Accessories ruled supreme with exquisite styling incorporating overnight bags, headdresses, footwear, low-slung totes and even a sneaky pillow slung over a former Time Out intern-turned-male model. The detailed jewellery stuck with the tribal focus, and cuffs, chokers and headdresses were complimented by feathers, flower leis, tassels and poms poms.

Camilla Franks’ personal final walk down the runway accompanied by 15 or so Camilla-clad kids in pint-sized kaftans and floral headdresses was a cuteness overload and closed the show on a high.
