DIY romantic weekend

Best bars for a first date
Got a lovely date lined up for Valentine’s Day? We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite spots to take a potential lover.

Watch the sunrise or sunset
Roses are lovely, fancy dinners divine, but for our money few things are sweeter than plonking down somewhere to watch that great big star of ours do its thing.

Sydney's best picnic spots
Whisk your date off to a secret garden, a secluded spot in the park or to one of the harbour islands for a romantic afternoon picnic.

Best cafés for the morning after
Hey, if all goes well, you might need this top list of the best morning after venues to continue that love affair well into Sunday morning.

Something different: anti Valentine’s Day fun

Lunar Markets
Stop in at the new markets in Pyrmont. There’ll be stalls from Daniel San and Bao Stop – plus inviting places to stop for a drink. Feb 12-22.

Brown Cardigan IRL
Who is Brown Cardigan? We're not 100 per cent sure. Head to Goodgod to find out, expect LOLs, bangers and photobombs. Fri Feb 13.

Bad Boy Bubby Turns 21
It's the 21st birthday of cult Aussie film Bad Boy Bubby by Rolf De Heer. Star Nicholas Hope is hosting a one-off screening and Q&A. Sat Feb 14.

Sydney Tomato Festival
Honour the most popular fruit in the world (in terms of tonnes produced) at the Tomato Fest over the Valentine’s weekend. Fight it out with other aficionados for the best passata. Feb 14-15.
