By Train Catch a train from Central Station and you’ll find yourself in Cabramatta in 45 minutes. Peak – single $4.60, concs. $2.30. Return $9.20, $4.60; off peak – $6.40, concs. (child only) $2.60

Eat & Drink

You can’t walk down the main street of Cabra without a snack in your hand. Best known for Vietnamese food, the ’burb also boasts Cabramatta Deli, an excellent Russian deli specialising in cured hams, cheeses and dry goods. For the best noodle soups head to Tan Viet for ‘crisken skin chicken’ – the spelling may be a bit bung, but they sure know how to cook. Then stop by Than Binh for roast pigeon and some of their garlic and butter squid. Vietnamese not your cuppa? Try the yum cha at Vinh Phat: their prawn and scallop balls wrapped in bean curd are awesome. (MR)
