National Trust Australia ran a competition asking people to photograph and caption their favourite place.
The best images from all over Australia were on display at Customs House in Circular Quay as part of World Architecture Day on 6 October 2008. Here is our pick from around NSW...
Camp Cove sunset (above) I love this place... because it is a great spot to spend an afternoon, sitting on the quiet beach, eating fish and chips on the pier feeling a million miles away from anywhere while the city sits over the horizon. Nathan Kaso
Nan's house, Cromer NSW I love this place... I love your house. I'll never forget Chinese take away on Christmas Eve. And my fourth Christmas present from you was one of those toy dogs that move and bark. And the last time I came over, I helped you put up the new curtains in your bedroom. And the conversations on the lounge about the peeling wallpaper. And that any day the whole place could fall to the ground. But you don't care. You're happy. You'll continue to buy me ice creams, even though I'm 17. I'll never forget these things. Amy Milton
Lavender Bay sunrise I love this place... because of the fantastic colours and background - no wonder it's called Lavender Bay. Grey McNeil
Bronte ocean pool I love this place... because, I can sit here, dangle my feet in the water and watch as a new day dawns. I can people-watch or walk to the end of the cliff or take a early morning swim. Annette Blattman
Sydney Park Brick Works, St Peters I love this place... because it screams about the past. Not the dusty old past of museums. Not the unimaginable past of ancient ruins. It is a very real, tangible past. It is a past in living memory but preserved all the same. And while the new apartments and office blocks go up all around, this place just becomes more and more beautiful. Barnaby Chambers
Grandfather's house, NSW I love this place... because I passed most of my childhood here. It is surrounded by bushland, and has become part of the land itself. Samuel Cook
Wave Rider, The Sydney Royal Easter Show I love this place... because the Easter Show has so much energy. There is also something quite timeless about side show alley. This same image could have been taken 50 years ago. And I know everyone one the ride is smiling.Deborah Kent
