Paddington Markets 
With over 250 stalls setting up each week, these markets give a leg up to plenty of local up-and-coming designers. And it’s a great warm-up for a shopping day on the Oxford Street strip. Every Sat, 10am–5pm. FREE.

Pyrmont Growers Markets
This is the market for keen followers of the slow food movement. Each stall is marked with signs detailing exactly how far the produce has travelled. First Sat of the month, 7–11am. FREE.

100 Squared
Sitting smack bang in the middle of Westfield Sydney, this space features 11 emerging designers that have caught founder Justin Levy’s eye. And he knows how to pick them: two designers – Christopher Dobosz and Mok Theorem – showed at RAFW in 2011. Mon–Sat 9.30am–6.30pm; Thu 9.30am–9pm; Sun 10am–6pm. FREE.

Sydney Flower Markets
Opening everyday bar one, the Sydney Flower Market will cater to all your botanical needs. Trading usually packs up by 10am, so be sure to set your alarm. Mon–Sat 5–10am. FREE.

Fringe Bar Markets
Schooner-in-hand shopping, vintage fashions and young designers make this weekly market a must. Every Sat, 10am–5pm. FREE.

Rock ‘n’ Roll & Alternative Markets

Eveleigh Farmers Markets
Over 70 stalls bring the freshest seasonal produce, gourmet fare, flowers, wine and more direct to the inner west every weekend. Go early and have Kylie Kwong-cooked pancakes for brekkie. Every Sat, 8am–1pm. FREE.

Rozelle Markets
Bric-a-brac, records, books, clothes and serious bargains abound at this market every Saturday and Sunday. Get rifling and you’re sure to score a serious gem. Every Sat & Sun, 9am–4pm. FREE.

Dear Pluto Garden Flea Markets
In Surry Hills, two ex-residents of share house-cum-culture club, Hibernian House, have teamed up to open one-stop vintage clothing shop, Dear Pluto. The warehouse space keeps regular store hours each weekend, and also plays host to regular Sunday Garden Flea Markets. Visit the Dear Pluto website for market dates. 

Glebe Markets
One of Sydney’s favourite outdoor markets has locals browsing second-hand clothing, accessories, books, recordings, arts, crafts, and furniture to the sounds of live music every week. Every Sat, 10am–4pm. FREE.

Sydney Fish Market 
This working fishing port – with wholesale and retail fish markets, shops, a variety of indoor and outdoor eateries, and picnic tables on an outdoor deck – is well worth the journey to Pyrmont. Daily 7am–4pm. FREE.

Kirribilli Markets
This monthly market is all about fashion. There’s always ample vintage wears and Aussie designers often sell off samples. Get there early and don't miss the Mink Pink $5 stall. Fourth Sat of the month, 8.30am–3pm. FREE.

Flemington Swap and Sell
This is the pick of the pack for a serious fashion bargain. If you hit the market at 2am when stallholders are setting up, you’ll have access to the cream of the pre-loved crop. Every Sat, 2am–2pm. FREE.

Surry Hills Markets
Surry Hills is the ticket for second hand records and threads or a dog-eared copy of Catcher in the Rye. And it’s in the perfect ‘hood for a killer brunch before the browsing begins. First Sat of the month, 7am–4pm. FREE.

EQ Village Markets
Fine fruit, vegetables, meats, cheeses and gourmet foods from rural NSW abound here, both hydroponically and organically grown, to inspire your cooking to new heights. There's plenty to keep the kids entertained while you scour the breads, flowers and sweets too. Wed & Sat, 10am–3.30pm. FREE.
