Twilight Food FairCivic Park, 200 Miller St, North Sydney 2060. Fridays during Summer, 5.30–9.30pm, Free. There's a north side noodle fest every Friday night with international food stalls, live entertainment and even a dance floor!

Paddington MarketPaddington Uniting Church, Oxford St, Paddington 2021. Every Sat, 10am–4pm, Free. With over 250 stalls setting up each week, these markets give a leg up to plenty of local up-and coming designers. It's a great warm-up for a shopping day on the Oxford Street strip.

Pyrmont Growers MarketPyrmont Bay Park, Cnr Pirrama Rd & Edward St, Pyrmont 2009. First Sat of the month, 7–11am, Free. This is the market for keen followers of the slow food movement. Each stall is marked with signs detailing exactly how far the produce has travelled.

Bundeena MarketsRoyal National Park, 1 Brighton St, Bundeena 2230. First Sun of the month, 9am–2pm, Free. These seaside markets are full of locally made arts and crafts from photography and ceramics to handmade soap, bread and jewellery.

Eveleigh Artisan MarketCarriageWorks, 243 Wilson St, Eveleigh 2015. First Sun of the month, 10am–3pm, Free. Once a month this market space is packed to the brim with independent designers and artists including Studio Stinky, Silvermonk, The Near Future and Bornagain Books.

Sydney Flower MarketSydney Markets Plaza, Parramatta Rd, Flemington 2129. Mon–Sat, 5–10am, Free. Opening everyday bar one, the Sydney Flower Market will cater to all your botanical needs. Trading usually packs up by 9am, so be sure to set your alarm.

Foodz and Toonz on the GreenAddison Rd Centre, 142 Addison Rd, Marrickville 2204. Once a month, 6pm, Free. Once a month the Addison Rd collective transforms into a world food fair with live music, kids entertainment and bric-a-brac market stalls.

Rocks Markets by MoonlightThe Rocks, Sydney 2000. Every Friday from 5 Nov, 5.30pm, Free. The historic laneways of the Rocks come alive with fairy lights, market stalls and music courtesy of on-the-up local musicians.

Fringe Bar MarketsThe Fringe Bar, 106 Oxford St, Paddington 2021. Every Sat, 10am–5pm, Free. Schooner-in-hand shopping, vintage fashions and young designers make this weekly market a must.

Eveleigh MarketsCarriageWorks, 243 Wilson St, Eveleigh 2015. Every Sat, 8am–1pm, Free. Over 70 stalls bring the freshest seasonal produce, gourmet fare, flowers, wine and more direct to the inner west every weekend.

Rozelle MarketsRozelle Public School, Darling St, Rozelle 2039. Every Sat & Sun, 9am–4pm, Free. Bric-a-brac, records, books, clothes and serious bargains abound at this market every Saturday and Sunday. Get rifling and you're sure to score a serious gem.

Paddy's HaymarketCnr Thomas & Hay Sts, Haymarket 2000. Thu–Sun, 9am–5pm, Free. The cheapest produce in inner city Sydney comes courtesy of this huge indoor market. Get out your nanna trolley and stock up for the week!

Fri 19

Chinatown Night MarketDixon St, Haymarket 2000. Every Fri, 4–11pm, Free. Start Friday nights with a trip to Chinatown. Peruse stalls, snack on dumplings and Taiwanese sponge pancakes and learn to train a bonsai.

Sat 20

Glebe MarketsGlebe Public School, Cnr Glebe Pt Rd & Derby Pl, Glebe 2037. Every Sat, 10am–4pm, Free. One of Sydney's favourite outdoor markets has locals browsing second-hand clothing, accessories, books, recordings, arts, crafts, and furniture to the sounds of live music every week.

Rock ‘n' Roll & Alternative Market Jets Sports Club, Holbeach Ave, Tempe 2044. Third Sun of the month, 11am–7pm, Free. On the third Sunday of each month you can get in on ska and rockabilly bands, barefoot bowls, a jumping castle, and of course market stalls.

Bondi MarketsBondi Beach Public School, Campbell Pde, Bondi Beach 2026. Every Sun, 10am–5pm, Free. Having boasted stalls from the likes of Ksubi, Pete vs Toby and Lover before they hit the big time, Bondi Markets is our pick for cheap and ahead-of-the-game fashion.

Sydney Fish MarketBank St, Pyrmont 2009. Daily, 7am–4pm, Free. This working fishing port - with wholesale and retail fish markets, shops, a variety of indoor and outdoor eateries, and picnic tables on an outdoor deck - is well worth the journey to Pyrmont.

The Rocks Farmers MarketJack Mundey Place, Cnr George & Argyle Sts, The Rocks 2000. 9am–4pm, Free. A range of stalls selling flowers, fresh organic produce and sweet treats, plus prepared lunch options such as barbecued salmon and paella.

Sat 27

Kirribilli MarketBradfield Park, Cnr Alfred & Burton Sts, Kirribilli 2061. 8am–3pm, Free. This monthly market is all about fashion. There's always ample vintage wears and Aussie designers often sell off samples. Get there early and don't miss the Mink Pink $5 stall.

Flemington Swap and SellSydney Markets Plaza, Parramatta Rd, Flemington 2129. Every Sat, 2am–2pm, Free. The pick of the pack for a serious fashion bargain. If you hit the market at 2am when stallholders are setting up, you're sure to bag the cream of the pre-loved crop.

PYD. Design MarketsPYD. Building, 197 Young St, Waterloo 2017. 27–28 Nov, 10am–5pm, Free. This two day event will host over 80 designers whose work centres on the theme: ‘three-dimensional designs for living and giving'.

EQ Village Sunday MarketEntertainment Quarter, 122 Lang Rd, Moore Park 2021. Every Sun, 10am–4pm, Free. The canopied market has fine jewellery, art, homewares, clothing and toys every week.
