Sydney's best new markets

Love a weekend market visit? Add these new fashion finds to your rotation

In Surry Hills, two ex-residents of share house-cum-culture club, Hibernian House, have teamed up to open one-stop vintage clothing shop, Dear Pluto. The warehouse space keeps regular store hours each weekend, and the girls also host regular Sunday Garden Flea Markets. On Monday nights you can catch classic film screenings in exchange for a gold coin donation (BYO booze and pillows) and they've even given the speed-dating format a hipster overhaul. Visit Dear Pluto for movie, dating and market dates.

In the next suburb over, Darlinghurst Flea Markets has taken a cue from Paddington's Fringe Bar Markets, offering a market for those that like to rise late and shop with a beer in hand. Expect zines, prints, tees, stencils and all manner of things arty and homemade.

Not keen on the vintage look? Get a brand new fashion fix at 100 Squared. Sitting smack bang in the middle of Westfield Sydney, the project is the brainchild of Justin Levy, the man behind ABSOLUT Stairwell Gallery, and features 11 emerging designers that have caught his eye. Levy sure knows how to pick them: two designers – Christopher Dobosz and Mok Theorem – will show at RAFW for the first time this year.

One-off market event Bizarre Bazaar will also pop up in a central Sydney laneway this month. Thirty stalls selling the wares of local designers will fill the terrace outside Small Bar and Balcony Bar at this twilight fashion market. If you’ve got fashion week fever, but haven’t snagged tickets to any of the shows, this could be the fix you need. There’ll be fashion shows, DJs and plenty of drinks. Terrace outside Small Bar and Balcony Bar, Sussex Ln, Sydney 2000. Thu 19 May, 6–10pm.
