Although Manly isn’t exactly synonymous with high culture, you can pop into this small gallery/museum if all the surfer lingo starts to curdle your brain. Opened in 1930, it has an 845-strong collection of paintings by Australian artists, more than 2000 historic photographs of the northern beaches area, some impressive ceramics and exhibitions by local students and photographers. The museum is dev-oted to the history of Manly and has a marvellously kitsch collection of beach memorabilia, including vintage swimming costumes. The shop sells leaflets describing two Heritage Walks around Manly.
