Say what you like about rampant alcoholism: in the 60s, the cocktails had style. Here's our guide to drinking like Mad Men
Old Fashioned: The king of the cocktails and a favourite with dashing head of creative Don Draper. The Old Fashioned is basically a big ol' glass of rye whiskey with a dash of sugar syrup mixed with bitters built over ice - Bayswater Brasserie.
Gimlet: Plymouth gin mixed with Roses lime cordial served up (in a cocktail glass). Betty Draper – blonde bombshell, ex-model and wife to serial philanderer Don Draper – likes to drink these prior to a fancy Manhattan dinner - Rockpool Bar.
Martini: The three-Martini lunch was born in the 60s. Gin and vermouth are shaken or stirred over ice and garnished with a twist or olives (the addition of olive brine makes it a dirty Martini). This classic is enjoyed by Roger Sterling, managing partner of Sterling Cooper - with a round of oysters - Zeta Bar.
Gibson: A variation on the Martini served with two cocktail onions. Silver fox Roger Sterling drinks them both on the rocks and up - Goldfish.
Bloody Mary: A classic brunch drink of tomato juice, vodka, Tabasco, pepper (and sometimes sherry) garnished with a celery stick, served ice cold. The Drapers often relax on a Sunday with these - Longrain.
Manhattan: Account executive Pete Campbell may be wet behind the ears but he sure knows how to drink. This classic is a mix of rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters - Wildfire.
Tom Collins: An incredibly refreshing combination of gin, lemon juice and sugar mixed, strained then topped with soda water. Joan Holloway, Rubenesque siren and office manager at Sterling Cooper, is a fan - Bentley Restaurant and Bar.
Brandy Alexander: A traditional after-dinner drink of cream, crème de cacao and brandy topped with grated nutmeg. Mousy copywriter Peggy Olson drinks them in an attempt to be sophisticated. Hemmesphere.
