Cream Tangerine

First published on . Updated on 8 May 2012.

'Cream tangerine' is the first line in the Beatles song 'Savoy Truffle', written by George Harrison for Eric Clapton's crazy sweet tooth. It's also a new bar from the folks who brought you The Rum Diaries, and set to change the face of Bondi. Set on the balcony of the Swiss Grand Hotel, it's the perfect place to while away your summer days - it's a little bit Boogie Nights and a little bit Casino, only without the organised crime, coke-fuelled meltdowns and disco porn.

The open-plan space, where fountains trickle prettily in the courtyard, looks over Bondi Beach and the rounded bars are filled with good-looking boys in short shorts bumping out some pretty awesome drinks.
There's a Martini for every meal for starters, each with a different style of gin (South for breakfast, Tanqueray 10 for lunch, Hendricks for afternoon tea and Bombay Sapphire for dinner). There's also a bunch of cocktails you can share like the sangria for four served in a soda syphon or the bowl of Pina Colada for two served on fire (insert joke here about getting caught in the rain).

There's a bar in Melbourne where for an extra 50 cents you can get a shot of Blue Curacao in any drink, opening up an absolute world of possibilities for blue drinks. At Cream Tangerine they've put a Blai-tai on the menu - your regular Mai-tai, only blue. Oh, happy days.

It's crazy loud even though it's outdoors, which should theoretically dissolve some of the noise. But then, it's just plain packed with no sign of slowing down - we predict big crowds and a helluva lot of fun. The drinks are great, there's plenty on the list no matter what your persuasion and any menu that applies a cocktail for any hour of the day gets a big fat tick of approval from us. If this is summertime drinking, consider it tapped.
