Slide is like the Shirley Bassey of Oxford Street – camp, yet classy as all get-up. This former bank is one of the most beautifully decked-out bars on the strip and it’s largely due to a stunning renovation that honours the details of its former incarnation. Slide is more bi than it is gay, and with a creative bill of cabaret shows, live performances by local and touring singer-songwriters and spoken word nights, it offers a welcome alternative to the stock-standard drag shows scattered throughout Oxford Street’s string of venues. Slide’s signature serving is its unique degustation menu night called El Circo where guests are treated to a nine-course meal-athon in front of a cavalcade of entertainment that consists of a different act throughout every course, such as trapeze artists, contortionists, and even full-body shadow puppetry. After midnight, Slide scrubs up nicely as a cool little discotheque driven by a stellar selection of rotating DJs – so if you like to drink and grind, then slide right on in.
