The grand-daddy of the Eastern Suburbs pub scene, the Lord Dudley commands respect for its timeless Brit décor, open fireplace, great line-up of English ales, and booth-style seating in the main lounge. On top of that there’s the fact you can drink on the street until 8.30pm and get a damn good meal downstairs with a bottle of wine and still have change from a hundred. The darts room is one of few left in Sydney and, on the topic of sport, you’ll get AFL, rugby and cricket on the big screen, with the Dud’s old-school legal eagle and pollie crowd occasionally cheering along. But it’s not in your face, and even when there’s a big telecast you’ll still be able to sit, chat and savour a pint of the dark stuff. Ironically for a grand old English pub, the on-the-ball staff serve up some of the area’s coldest beer.
