El Rocco's got itself a pretty sweet comedy room
El Rocco have recently launched their Happy Endings Comedy Club, whose co-proprietor Mark David describes thusly:
What are you trying to achieve with the room? Stand up comedy for the people! An epic, intimate, comedy club with first-class performances in the cool playground of Kings Cross, all be it in a very nice side street. Sydney should own a club like this so we can set our nights off the best possible way: with some cracking laughs.
What's the point of difference of Happy Endings? It's location just off the Golden Mile gives Sydney an option of dinner/show/night-out all within 50 metres. You can hang, chat, meet and eat in the delicious upstairs bar at El Rocco, then watch top shelf comedy in the intimate vintage NYC style Jazz cellar twice a night. Watch an 8pm show then head out, or have dinner and catch the 10pm late show, Chk Chk Boom.
What makes for a good room for comedy? Intimacy. And simply, the audience. C'mon Sydney, show your love for this incredible live art form in the coolest place possible. Come once and we will make you come again...
What does Sydney comedy have that's unique to the city? Sydney's comedians get their gun out of the holder a lot faster. They are punchier and straight to the point. This would go with the theory that Sydney is a hustle and bustle crowd always on the go, and the same goes with the comedy crowds: they want rapid fire, clever jokes.
