Go here for... a taste of 1999.
This appendage of the Sebel Hotel in Surry Hills is an homage to the original pub constructed in 1963 in Elizabeth Bay. At its current location on Albion St, signed portraits of celebs still line the walls – sit back with a Coopers underneath a headshot of Pamela Anderson. Tinted floor-to-ceiling windows comprise the main entrance, but it opens onto a surprisingly airy main bar, brightened by a trio of hanging Asian-inspired red lamps. Televisions quietly play the rugby, cricket, and racing highlights, but they're drowned out by a bar soundtrack that sounds like the Greatest Rock Hits of 1999.
Twelve domestic beers are available on tap, including four varieties of Schwartz, and, if you're not in the mood for a brew, there are cocktails and a respectable wine list.
Food-wise, the kitchen serves up all the classics (wedges – the ultimate pub staple). Best of all, not a single item on the menu is over $20. If you're feeling especially frugal, the bar also offers Beer of the Week and Wine of the Month specials.
