The Sackville Hotel

First published on . Updated on 22 Nov 2011.

The Sackville has had a good hosing down and tarting up since the days our grandads darkened its doorway, but it’s still a good dependable boozer, straddling the fine line between Balmain and Rozelle and welcoming locals for a drink, a meal or a good old-fashioned drinking session. While it’s all very shiny and new inside, certain parts of the Sackville hark back to its working class days – the TAB tucked away in the corner of the main bar and crowded with vocal punters is a pretty good clue. The menu combines pub grub with Italian-inspired dishes and there is plenty to keep one occupied – happy hour runs from 4 till 6pm Monday to Thursday; you can grab lunch for ten bucks onday to Friday; DJs play on the weekend; and ladies are spoiled with $8 cocktails on Saturday nights. If all that does your head in and you feel like vacating the premises, the attached bottleshop is one of the best in Sydney and is perfectly situated for picking up a traveller on the way home.
