Glebe's new small bar is filled with great tunes, ping pong and candlelight

Glebe just keeps getting better, filling up with new small bars. First there was Timbah – neighbourhood wine bar with a heart of gold – and now there’s Bar 99. The dark room out front is filled with giant melting candles, the drinks board is a mishmash of cocktails and beers. Great tunes pipe through the venue. T
he bartenders don’t seem all that keen on making drinks, or even making change, but take it as part of the package – cold beers and feet on the table are more welcome than cocktail snobs and precious dolly birds.
It’s all set in an old terrace, so there are lots of little hidey-holes and small rooms with a kitchen out the back. On Sundays, there’s free live music and $5 beers (Corona, Coopers, Boags) as well as $10 cocktails. There are also board games. It’s a casual watering hole where you can flop on an old lounge with a beer, flick through some mags, talk to your mates or play a cheeky game of ping pong. What more could you want?
no ... first there was Different Drummer ;-)
