Located in the former home of Mocean, 34 Degree South has been shaking up Bondi’s cocktail scene with a list that challenges the rules of bartending. From the Fig and Wasabi Daiquri to the Pavlova, and the Pinot Epernay (all $15.50), the cocktails are pushing all kinds of boundaries, including sense and taste. Sure, you can have a regular Martini, but be experimental and try a drink that features house-made fig and wasabi sorbet or reduced pinot noir. The space at 34 Degree South has become more eclectic and quite frankly, it’s good to see something other than Mocean in this shell. But upstairs hasn’t retained that cool/crazy feel of Mocean and during the afternoons, it can feel quite café-like. So, if you’re coming, get here at night and head straight down to the underground bar. Grab a corner and scope the cocktail list, ordering a side of good service with your wasabi wonder.
