Café Lounge is one of those well-kept Sydney secrets for casual-but-cool inner-city drinks and eats. Alfresco drinking can be done in front of the spectacular interior mural, but a banquette cranny amongst the shabby chic furniture inside offers a little extra comfort over rickety stools and benches in the funky ‘courtyard’. There is massive charm here and your affable hosts will knock the top off a Coopers Pale Ale quicker than the regular list of DJs can cut'n'scratch. While the bar does basics the food menu does comfort – a bowl of wedges and a no-frills glass of house red can kick start things, but more substantial fare, like braised lamb shanks or house-made lasagne, will fill the gaps. Pizzas also go well, albeit a little on the fancy side, but throw a couple on the table and while away the night.
