You could say that the aptly-named Rum Diaries on Bondi Road is somewhat of a shrine to all things rum. Rum cocktails, food matched with rum, rum barrels... you get the picture. Open the menu and you’ll find a history of rum cocktails that doubles as a menu. The RD’s house specialties go from Fish House Punch to the Knickerbocker and the Mai Tai (all $17.50); even the most avid non-rum drinkers will find something to like. But if that fails, there’s a good wine list here, highlighted by the Mr Riggs Cabernet from Coonawarra SA. Onto the food and three shared plates (for two) dubbed ‘The Gonzo’ ($23), ‘The Great Shark Hunt’ ($34) and ‘Where the Buffalo Roam’ ($39) are recommended, and make sure you save room for the chocolate tart ($13.50). Also, the live acoustic nights on Mondays are damn cool, but do book ahead.
