The Alabama rapper is ready to give Radioactive, his long-awaited major label debut, a live airing
Yelawolf has an unmistakable voice, a distinctive viewpoint (the would-be pro skateboarder worked as a fisherman in the Arctic before spending years grinding on the Southern rap circuit) and, with his country twang and ear for car-speaker-pleasing beats, Eminem-esque cross-cultural cred.
Almost as importantly, he’s the first Caucasian rapper to gain the backing of the last great white MC, having signed to Em’s Shady Records inlast year. Radioactive, his major label breakthrough, has been out for a few months and unlike his blingin' hip hop contempories, Yelawolf has crafted an authentic LP that pays tribute to Middle America.
Luckily for local fans, Yela is part of a new breed of road-warrior MCs who – acutely aware that their livelihoods now depend more on ticket receipts than record sales – are helping to bring a much-needed respect for live performance back to hip hop’s live circuit. And as such, he'll be tearing up the Metro in late March.
