There is no denying that on the list of fun things to do on a night out, karaoke comes in near the top. However, if your inner star is looking for something a little more ambitious than the usual power ballads and pop singalongs, why not give Hip Hop Karaoke a try? A hit in New York and London, HHK is returning to GoodGod on Wed 20 Apr.

Of course, this ain't your typical karaoke. The idea is to replicate the live experience of the MC, and HHK has everything you need to live out your rap dreams: a DJ providing the ones and twos, a hype man to get the crowd wildin' out, and live visuals to suit your song choice. You can choose between performing a whole track or just spitting a favourite verse, and duets and posses are encourage to grip the mic. In addition, special guests will be getting up during the night to showcase their lyrical skills.

Like the famed practice of rap battling, there is a competitive element to HHK, with prizes going to the performers who best bless the crowd with their chosen track. If that wasn't enough incentive, each performer also receives a free beer. Dressing up is encouraged as well, so break out your favourite Coogi sweater and thick gold rope to give you an extra edge.

Registration at www.hiphopkaraoke.com.au is necessary if you want a guaranteed crack at hip-hop stardom, and entry costs a mere $5, so start brushing up on your lyrics and practising your meanest thug mug.
