Bad habits remix

If it’s taken you the last three months to get the theme song from Mr G’s magnum opus musical out of your head, then you are in for a further caning this week. Mr G’s alter ego Chris Lilley, has teamed up with cult Sydney DJ and remixing gurus Seymour Butz and Paul Mac to give birth to a totally addictive dance mix of ‘Naughty Girl’. The Annabelle Dixon theme, which has Rogers and Hammerstein spinning in their graves, has the X factor subliminally woven into its addictive melody.

From the moment the curiously camp Mr G first tickled the ivories with his earliest rendition of the song, Australia was well and truly hooked. Episodes marched by, rating the house down and leaving millions of viewers singing the killer chorus, “She’s a slut and she knows it” at inopportune times. The final episode of Summer Heights High had the nation glued to the debut of Mr G The Musical, leaving no limelight on any other legitimate theatrical production the city had on offer that night. As expected the flamboyant Mr G delivered a top shelf performance that sets the bar high for Cate Blanchett and the STC.

Within moments of airing, scenes from Mr G The Musical were spotted on Youtube and the hit count was rising. Subsequent days saw an amateur bootleg dance remix version of ‘Naughty Girl’ make its way online. However it would take a collaborative effort between Paul Mac, Seymour Butz and Chris Lilley to create the screwy, hyper-addictive tune unleashed on March 1.

“Mr G was fantastic to work with. Part of the recording meant a group of kids came into the studio to chant ‘ecstasy! ecstasy! ecstasy!’ as backing vocals. It was both a beautiful and surreal experience which saw Mr G being the supportive drama teacher throughout the session.” Time Out’s good buddy Seymour Butz told us.
The three men and their baby will make their radio debut on the same night Paul Mac and Butz (known together as Stereogamous) will unleash the track to the Mardi Gras masses during their set at the party ground’s Forum dance space.

Butz assures us that Stereogamous, who have previously remixed tunes by Wolfmother and The Presets, have elevated the Annabel Dixon theme to new summer heights, ensuring the unlikely anthem hits the charts and the dance floor with an enormous thud. “We are dropping the track on the floor during Stereogamous’ set on the night and are very excited  by the reaction it’s going to get.”

The ‘Naughty Girl’ remix is out March 1 through e-e-e EMI. More on Seymour and Paul Mac’s collaboration can be found at MySpace, keyword ‘stereogamous’.

Mr G-isms

“I tend to do the more modern or cutting edge productions. The big show I did last year was Tsu-namarama which was about the tsunami tragedy set to the music of Bananarama”

“One of my big duties is evacuation procedures. I use my acting skills to create the drama of the situation... like ‘There’s a pedophile loose in the schoolyard!’”

“[Annabel Dixon] was into the boys in a big way, she was what the kids would call a ‘slut’. It’s a terrible thing to say about some one who has just died, but apparently there is no denying she was one”
