The Australian Film Festival is an annual showcase of Australian talent working in a variety of film mediums, from features to short films. Based in Sydney's historic Randwick Ritz cinema, the two-week event is a celebration of Australian achievement and endeavour in the changing film industry, encouraging the growth of Aussie cinema through industry-led workshops, discussion forums and a welcoming festival atmosphere. In the past, the AFF has screened multiple Sydney premieres (The Reef and Griff the Invisible) in addition to popular retrospective screenings of classic Australian films (Mad Max and The Sum of Us) with original cast and crew members. The Australian Film Festival closes annually with 'The Spot Food and Film Festival', where thousands gather to watch the Australian Short Film Festival and to pay tribute to the Aussie actors and actresses who are initiated into the Australian Film Walk of Fame. With past inductees including Michael Caton, Roy Billing, Jack Thompson and Claudia Karvan, the public celebration and ceremony for incoming members of the Australian Film Walk of Fame is always a highlight of the AFF. In 2012, the AFF will enter its third year, and promises big things while retaining a fun approach to all things Australian film.
