Headphones, popcorn and a starry sky mean sweet pleasure at this intimate rooftop cinema
Once the projector screen pulls down on the rooftop of the Local Taphouse, it's time to climb on up for movie night. Candlelit tables are set in rows facing the screen and patrons are seated after ordering a complimentary pinot noir or pilsner from the bar. It’s 7pm – twilight – and the light margin leaves time to get a head start on one of the killer burgers (here’s to extra crispy fries on the side!) before the film starts to roll.
As autumn sets in, you can warm your blood with a beer tasting too – they have a seriously impressive range of global craft ales, pilsners, lagers and witbiers that are carefully selected each week.
Once it’s dark, guests are handed a set of headphones and a red bowl filled with warm, salty popcorn. Sink into your seat, because the guys at the Taphouse have kick-ass taste in films. Table service continues throughout the screening – just ring the little silver bell on your table. And with everyone around you immersed in the film pumping through their head phones, only the friendly waitress can hear your call.
A good flick, a tasty drink and a clear night’s sky for a tenner? Deal.
