Experience Italian cinema with all your senses
The themed cinema nights are coming in thick and fast this winter. SBS's World Movies Secret Cinema kicked off with a brilliant themed screening of Iranian film Circumstance in May. Rumours of Melbourne's much-loved theatre/cult film mash-up, Underground Cinema, spreading to Sydney are currently surging. The Local Taphouse's Silent Cinema is a tacit and trendy delight. And a contemporary Italian film series has just launched in a swish Potts Point restaurant.
On Tuesday nights during July, Cinema Peroni will take over Mezzaluna to showcase some of Italy's best contemporary films. The films are paired with an indulgent three-course modern Italian menu, aperitivo and, of course, Peroni.
Catch writer/director Silvio Muccino in Un Altro Mondo (Another World), which follows mid-twenties Andrea as he leaves his cushy and indulgent life in Rome to visit his dying father in Kenya, on Jul 3. The following week, on Jul 10, Edoardo Leo's road movie 18 Anni Dopo (18 Years Later) warms up the screen. And on Jul 17, director Luca Lucini satirises the middle-class in La Donna Dei Miei Sogni (The Woman of my Dreams), a rom-com starring Eat Pray Love's Luca Argentero and Valentina Lodovini.
Fine Italian film paired with fine Italian food? Bellissimo!
