It's that time of year again when QueerDoc hits us up with deliciously bent, terrifically twisted and often profoundly moving stories from gay, lesbian, and transgender people for all corners of the globe. Festival director Lex Lindsay and his crew strain their already square eyes for six months of the year going through submissions for this corker of a film festival.
This year's highlights include in which French eroticist Emile Jouvet documents the first European tour of a group of activists, writers and gender expressionists known as the Feminist Sluts. In Sistagirl from Australia, teh far north's most famous drag performer, Foxxy Empire, invites award-winning indigenous photographer Bindi Cole to film the transgender sistagirls of the Tiwi Island community. The photographer quickly realises she must crack the sista code and gain the trust of these ladies before she can record their story.
It's no secret the dapper and out-and-proud Rufus Wainwright loves a good opera. This warts-and-all doco Rufus Wainwright: Prima Donna (UK) takes us through the development of Wainwright's own opera, realising his ambitions to become one of the boys among opera snobs.
