Time Out talks to the prince of polyester in time for his all-singing show at the Sydney Theatre

Welcome back Bob! We see you’ve left the group behind this time. Was there some tension backstage?
I think you're mistaking me for that guy from the Wiggles! But yes, I have gone solo for this show. It's so much easier than trying to book maxi cabs. And unlike musicians, backing CDs don't fill the dressing room with dope smoke.

Do you love having the stage (almost) all to yourself again?
I adore it, quite frankly. Although I do find they've got nothing else to look at but you! Which could be unnerving for someone less of a veteran pro than, ahem, me. I revel, nay, bask in it.

What are you looking forward to in this year’s Fashion Week?
The return of high-waisted cuffed baggies and ponchos. Wait a minute, that was in my dreams, wasn't it?

Have you considered teaching classes in pizzazz for models? They say it’s easier to learn from someone you respect.
Have you ever tried teaching anything to a model? Modelling is for pretty people with absolutely no talent! Sorry to be brutal about it, but there you have it. Have you seen Elle Macpherson act?

What’s the secret behind that smile? ‘Groupon’ vouchers for professional teeth whitening?
If I told you, I'd have to kill you. But I will admit, a crack dental team is involved.

You’ve changed your hair! Is there a One Direction connection?
It's funny, I only heard of them for the first time last Saturday afternoon. My new 'do is more inspired by Jack Vidgen and Margaret Pomeranz.
