"Guided by warm, lubricating jelly, Warren's clenched fist danced precariously around Neville's engorged love rod before sliding clumsily between his man-cheeks." It's amazing what kind of steamy scene a kiddy-pool full of Aeroplane Jelly and a couple of scantily clad homosexuals can create.
The elegance and charm of a sport normally reserved for classy titty bars has found its way to Manacle in Sydney's inner west. Take away the G-string bikinis and silicone breasts and replace them with hairy thighs and Speedos ready to erupt and 'poof' – you've got a sport gayer than ice skating.
Every Wednesday night Manacle hosts its ultra-sweet jelly wrestling competition to a full house. Sydney's only dedicated leather bar assumes the bloodthirsty atmosphere of a cockfight when homo-competitors do battle in the ring. Fortunately for both parties the ring in question is extremely well lubricated, eliminating any chance of chafing.
It's no secret the brains behind The Clarence Hotel and Manacle Bar, Stuart Fraser and Andrew Clarke, know how to pull in a good crowd. At its former home in Darlinghurst, Manacle put Sydney on the map as an underground hub for fetishists and regular gay Joes alike. Manacle's closure last year sent shockwaves through the community to rival the cancellation of Melrose Place in 1999. The bar's relaunch in Petersham has seen the boys and their bar make a bigger, stronger – and now stickier – comeback.
Jelly wrestling takes place every Wednesday night at Manacle
