Bitch Boutique

The lesbian club scene welcomes a new monthly night at Ruby Rabbit

When it comes to Sydney’s lesbian nightlife scene, local girls aren’t exactly spoiled for choice. With the exception of Sveta Gilerman’s mainstay, Queer Central at the Sly Fox Hotel, and the Bank Hotel’s regular Wednesday nights, ongoing club nights for the ladies are a little thin on the ground.

One woman who knows plenty about the scene is club promoter and the brains behind the Bitch events brand, Renee Schembri.

“I think the girls don’t have as big a need to be in a dedicated lesbian bar as such so much these days,” she says. “With that said, we still need girls' nights to keep our community connected and evolving, but I think it’s more about special one-off nights and big events rather than regular club and bar nights anymore.”

After getting on board the Big Gay Weekend with the launch of Bitch Boutique at Ruby Rabbit, Schembri brings us great news.

“We’re proud to announce that we are extending Bitch Boutique as a regular monthly night at Ruby Rabbit. It’s a fantastic revamped venue that allows us to serve up a stellar new night.”

Running across all three levels of Ruby Rabbit, the night aims to cater to varied tastes with a sexy, sophisticated vibe of the top-level cocktail bar, great dining from 5pm for those who looking for a social bite straight after work, and of course a cool club vibe for girls who like to bump and grind their Friday night away.

Schembri sums up Bitch Boutique up quite well: “It’s spunk and funk from the moment you enter till the time the lights come on.”
